This episode of Discover ADN is brought to you by Born SQL!

Microsoft SQL Server databases in small-to-medium-size businesses often don’t have a dedicated DBA to look after them. This ends up being the job of a developer, and the databases are neglected until someone comments how slow SQL Server is.

Randolph West at Born SQL is offering a once-off report, where he takes a look at your existing database instances and make recommendations to bring them up to industry standards. Included in the report are recommendations on upgrades, maintenance plans, disaster recovery, performance, and best practice improvements at both a hardware and software level.

The report usually costs $2,500 per server, but he's willing to offer listeners of Discover ADN a $750 discount, which works out to $1,750 per server. This is in Canadian dollars, too!

Coming in at between 16 and 20 pages long, the report provides feedback on how to make sure SQL Server is running optimally. It also includes an Excel workbook containing all the diagnostic information extracted from the instance, and an explanation on what each spreadsheet means.

Once your SQL instances are happy, he can then offer remote support, working with you to implement maintenance and disaster recovery plans, indexes, as well as query tuning. He can assist an on-site person to look after the instance, or work his magic remotely.

Of course, the rate is negotiable depending on the number of servers and databases involved.

Interested? Contact Randolph West via email at [email protected] with the keyword “Discover” in the subject line.
